This portion of the course teaches you how to accurately assess vital signs at home, including temperature, pulse, respiration, capillary refill time, and hydration. Normal vital ranges for both dogs and cats are covered, giving you a baseline for identifying abnormalities.

You will gain a clear understanding of emergency situations that require immediate veterinary attention. Topics include heat stroke, hypothermia, frostbite, shock, breathing distress, seizures, and abdominal emergencies, with guidance on how to stabilize your pet while seeking professional care.

This section covers safe and effective wound management for common injuries such as cuts, abrasions, punctures, burns, hot spots, abscesses, torn nails, and bleeding wounds. You will learn proper cleaning techniques, bandaging methods, splinting basics, and how to prevent infection during the healing process.

You will learn how to recognize and respond to gastrointestinal issues including vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, hairballs, and signs of internal blockages. Special attention is given to urinary emergencies, including blocked cats, and understanding when these situations become life-threatening.
